Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in particular - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-term mentor Cervara.
Currently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.
This marks his initial championship after the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since March of 2023.
The win also means he has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one different events.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on court had led commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was over.
But the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to advance forward and perform positively, reinforced by an better service.
Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour title, took control to create a third set.
Moutet saved 4 early-game opportunities in a tight deciding set before the Russian broke to that score to close out the victory.
Fittingly, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
